So I'm a little blogged out. I can't think of anything witty to say. I am at work so I have no pictures from my trip. And I had to sub for another instructor so I have been here way too long and am really pissy. So, you all are going to have to settle for a top 10 list.
The Top 10 Things I Learned on My First Backpacking Trip
1. When they say it is only a 1000 ft. descent into the canyon, they forget to mention that it is also then a 1000 ft. ascent, should you ever want to get out.
2. Tevas do not make good hiking boots, especially when hauling half your body weight over a lunarscape.
3. Hiking in sand sucks.
4. Backpacking sleeping pads are meant to be blown up, and this is best discovered BEFORE the morning you are breaking camp.
5. Mosquitos like B positive.
6. There are places in this world where you can still see the Milky Way. And I'm not talking about Maverick.
7. Quicksand is real.
8. Deserts can get really hot. Then really cold.
9. Getting to the U of U Football game is much more important than feeding hungry backpackers who haven't had anything but GORP and oatmeal for 3 days.
10. I absolutely love it and can't wait to go again!
